- Let's see, after 2 unsuccessful marriages I finally got
it right. Married to Joe for 9 years and we live in
Milpitas. I have 2 step-daughters, Cortney age 14 and
Laura age 13, 2 beautiful Golden Retrievers (Sophia age
15 and Bear age 8) and 2 large tanks of exotic
goldfish. When not working, we still go to Bear Valley
for snow skiing and Lake Shasta for waterskiing. We
are die-hard 49er fans and have season tickets so
between the home games and skiing our winter weekends
are pretty full. Looking forward to seeing everyone at
the reunion. Remember - "We are bitchin we are fine,
we're the Class of '69!!!"

- COME TO OUR 40TH REUNION JULY 11, SEE ANN TIETJEN’S
POST FOR DETAILS!!!!
Hello All!
Time for an update, I'll try to do a shorter one to
accommodate our shrinking attention spans. Life is
great, actually as long as I continue to wake up in
the morning I feel pretty good about things. Happily
married to Cathy (Vandagriff, Awalt '70); been 36
years now, I'm sure the result of me slipping a
little valium into her morning coffee daily. Two
excellent kids, both graduates of Cal Poly, SLO. Son
Jameson is a Fire Fighter for the City of Santa
Clara. He recently crashed his Harley but after 36
days in hospital is doing well and back to his normal
active life which also includes flying his ultra
light plane. Daughter Joanne graduated with a BA
Theatre Arts, and is a professional (Equity) actress
in NYC. She recently married a nice Italian boy from
Jersey; they hope to move to California within the
next 6 months or so.
Me? Foothill, than BA Theatre Arts and Teaching
Credential SJSU, taught for a few years in Palo Alto,
and still do some local theatre when the bug hits. I
work for myself; been a headhunter since 1979.
Business sucks currently as most companies are laying
off versus hiring, but hopefully the tide will turn
soon.
My wife Cathy was Director of IT for a local high end
home builder but got sick of the grind a few years
back and retired for a while, overseeing a complete
remodel of our house. She is now working part time in
Palo Alto for another developer and is a happy
camper...which makes me a happy camper.
We enjoy the outdoors, have a cabin at South Shore
Tahoe, and try to travel somewhere fun at least a few
times a year.
She grows great flowers, and I grow great
vegetables, so no wonder this is a good match.
Cheers!
Jim

- Having a great time , traveling on the highway of life.
Wife (Lesley, who still loves me after 25 years of
marriage, UCSB 1979) , 2 kids in college, both doing
well(Thor, Pepperdine junior and Ashley, Cal-Poly slo
soph.). We have been living in Steinbeck's Pastures of
Heaven,since 1989. When I'm not consulting as a soil
agronomist(focused on improving the nutrient density of
the plant matter which we consume) , I spend a lot of
my time in Panama.I am presently developing a
sustainable eco-resort on the beautiful Rio Chiriqui. It
was a 500+ year old farm, that we have restored, and we
are infusing the resort along three km's of the river
frontage in the jungle of panama. I still love things
that are fast , Noble GTO M400 ( 0 to 60 in 3.0
seconds) Harley Davidson Road King ( pumped up by the
HA's) I did Daytona Bike Week last year (and survived)
and a little boat that stands on her keel at 38 knots
( presently lying in the Carib). Hope to see how we
have all morphed over the past 40 years in July.I
enjoyed reading the Awalt blogs last night. Just
realizing, by being too busy with today , I have missed
part of yesterday. I hope all of the class of "69" has
enjoyed the high road as much as I have ( as well as
the low ) jsa

Califirnia Culinary Academy in SF and Brett

- What's New?
- Hi, Dick Williams and Steve Knight here...
Regretfully, Scott was killed in a structure fire back
in 1976. He was married and had step children on the
East coast having served time in the National Guard.
Scott did not know all of the family members had
gotten out of the house and went back in to check and
save his family. Part of the structure collapsed
resulting in Scott's death. All of the family was
saved and his life was not lost in vain.
Scott loved boxing and driving his Maverick--(remember
that car?) around Los Altos and Mt. View. He was a
good person. Steve and I felt it fitting to let people
know about Scott-it just took us a while to do it.

- What's New?
- hello all -
I've been in Tuolumne County in the Sierra for almost
40 years, with about 25 years working as a District
Archaeologist on the Stanislaus National Forest. I
was married briefly, and have one son Bret (23) who
is getting his MFA in digital graphic art at Syracuse
University, NY along with his fiancé. I am forever
studying Spanish, but manage to find interesting
places -such as backpacking in the Andes and Amazon -
to practice it.
About 5 years ago, I ran for the local water board
and have been busy with that ever since. It's been an
education. Mark Twain was right when he said
Whiskey's for drinkin' Water's for fightin' over. And
did you know that water will flow up hill to money?
When not in meetings I am in the garden, binoculors
handy, enjoying the wildlife on my acreage.

- Wow where do I start.....
After graduating from UCSB, I moved to Santa Cruz, and
have dedicated my life to my wonderful family and
public education.
I have been married for 27 years. My husband Rocky has
a nursery business in Watsonville, and grows prize-
winning poinsettias and 85 other varieties of
ornamental plants.
I am the principal of a California Distiguished School
in the small coastal commnunity of Corralitos where I
worked as teacher and assistant principal before
moving to the principalship (7 years ago). I love the
work, but will be challenging next year with so many
budget cuts...another conversation......
Daughter Amy, 25, is teaching third grade in Los Gatos.
Son Wes, 23 just graduated last Saturday from Cal
Poly, Landscape Architecture and Design.
Proud of both of them!!!
Never have been to one of these reunions. Looking
forward to seeing you in July.

- Paula and I have made the Big Switch: West Coast to
East Coast. I am riding the wave of data-driven
decision making in public education, having taken a
position as chief data training specialist for a K-12
educational resource firm in Cambridge, MA. The
position is part of a three year research project
being conducted for the US Dept. of Ed. A side benefit
has been that the company has also purchased my data
analysis software for resale to public school
districts and other vendors (Dell Computer and
Harcourt Assessment to name two). We are living
in the historic district of Groton, 35 miles northwest
of Boston, in a 171 yr. old colonial antique home.
Quite a switch from a ranch style in the high desert of
central Oregon.

- Timeline: Los Altos to Santa Cruz (1970), Santa Cruz to Chico (1973),
and Chico to Honolulu (1977) where I still reside. I started Events
International in 1985 and our company continues to evolve. Current
projects include State of Hawaii promotional events in Asia Pacific Rim
including our 2nd Annual 'Hawaii Experience in Shanghai' (June 05), a
'under the stars' jazz festival series at The Turtle Bay Resort on Oahu's
North Shore, work on high profile local events such as NFL Pro Bowl++
and an increasing frequency of meeting & incentive functions.
I bought a home on Waialae Nui Ridge above Kahala in 04 and doing
my best to renovate in between travel. I return to California every
possible opportunity and spend most of the time in SF & Sonoma,
Napa...etc. On occasion I can be seen walking around my old
neighborhood in Los Altos Hills. I fantasize about setting up shop in
N. California sooner than later...
I was happy to hook up with Jim & Cathy Amato when they visited
Hawaii last year and also enjoyed seeing Rick Nyren & his mother as
they visited as well.
On a recent visit to Thailand, an inquiring Thai asked me why I had no
children. I told him (in my best Thai) that in a past life I was a Thai rice
farmer with 11 kids, several water buffalo and I'd earned 'a life off'. I've
taken advantage of this situation to the fullest and am pleased to
report it's generally been a good ride so far. Ann, my 'also
independent' girlfriend & I enjoy our hillside sunsets and a glass of
wine from my favorite place on the planet... Northern California.

- Hell, I cannot remember what I had for lunch
yesterday...How can I recall the past 30 years!! I
graduated from San Diego State with a degree in
business and moved to the Los Angeles area for about
10 years...married in 1982 and moved back to San Diego
after suffering through too many hot and smoggy
summers in LA. We have two beautiful (twin) girls who
have just left the nest for college. Courtney is
attending the University of Arizona (business)and
Kelly will be attending San Diego State
(nursing)...since I coached their soccer and softball
teams plus the various parent high school activites, I
expect to have too much time on my hands, but work
seems to have a way of cutting into free time.
Speaking of work, I have been a commercial insurance
broker for the past 25 years with the past 8 years
being here in Del Mar. Hey, someone has to pay the
taxes here so that the No Cals can come visit!!
I play a litle golf and go to the gym on a regular
basis simply to fight the "bulge". An occasional
basketball game reminds me that I am still slow and
cannot shoot, but what the heck!

- Moved to Louisiana in 1975 after obtaining History
degree from UCSB. Drank from the bayou, married a
Cajun (Sandra) and have enjoyed life in the South ever
since. We have two daughters - Jessica (27) &
Michelle (24).
Finished my PhD at LSU in '97 & left the University of
Louisiana at Lafayette after 21 years there as Dean
of Students/Enrollment Management to work at the
Louisiana Board of Regents. After 7 years, left my job
in 2005 as Deputy Commissioner of Academic and Student
Affairs at the request of Governor Kathleen Blanco to
serve as her Chief of Staff (two weeks after Katrina's
landfall).
Spent 2 1/2 years immersed in the running of
state government amidst the realities of recovering
from the nation's largest natural disaster. This
extraordinary experience recently ended (January '08)
with the inauguration of a new governor and I decided
to retire from state service.
Retirement didn't last long... as I recently accepted
an offer from ACT, Inc. (the college admissions test
folks) to help them establish a national policy
center. As such I now serve as the Executive
Director of ACT's Center for College and Career
Success. Though the Center is housed in Iowa City,
IA, I will be based out of Lafayette, LA and will
spend a good deal of time travelling throughout the
US.
Looking forward to making it to the 40th reunion!

- After a year of commuting to Berkeley every day, I
decided it was time to save my sanity and have been
working for St Jude Medical in Sunnyvale for the past
two years. I love the 4 mile commute, but the job also
requires me to fly to the LA area frequently, so I
spend a lot of time on that Greyhound bus in the sky,
AKA Southwest Airlines. Nancy is still with
Homestead High School. Our daughter Erin (28) works
for Technicolor and manages client marketing for
Dreamworks, Paramount and Sony Pictures. Not sure what
all it entails, but it has a lot to do with movie
trailers. Our son Thomas (22) is a senior at UCLA and
loving what he's doing. After 3 years of being on the
drum line for UCLA's marching band (not to mention 4
years of high school) he's decided it's time to just be
a rabid football fan in the stands, so our days of
bleacher butt are officially over. Can't say we're
going to miss the sound of him practicing! Our
daughter Meghan (25) works for a celebrity management
firm in LA. Her big news is her marriage on 6/16/06 to
Brian McGinn, Jerry's nephew. Brian is a wonderful man
and we are so happy to welcome him into our family. We

To distill almost 40 years into 40 words can be
tricky. After graduating from the drive-thru U
(UCSB) in ‘75 I had fallen for Santa Barbara and
stuck. Married in ‘89 and have 1 daughter 10yrs old
and in 5th grade, but she calls me immature. We have
been living in a small community in the Santa Ynez
mountains behind S.B. since ’92 and I work as an
Engineer with a company involved in deep ocean
tactical tracking ranges, hydro-acoustic
communications, ocean observatories, all manner
of ‘Hunt for Red October’ stuff. My most recent
interest was rebuilding my ’77 shovelhead Harley, the
Walter Midy in me, and my daughter says it is
way too loud.
Take care, and have a successful 2007

- Warmest aloha to all 69ers!
I sure enjoyed reading what everyone has been up to so
I thought I'd update mine . I remarried in 1992 after
being a single mother to my two boys (Anthony -29,
Darren-25) for about 16 years. My husband Neill and I
decided to move to the island of Kauai in Hawaii in
1992 to get out of the rat race. It took a little
adjusting since I've never moved away from my family,
but I am now a kamaina (local) .I love the laid back
style of the island and my allergies are gone (must be
the clean air). My husband and I both have our own
businesses. He designs residential/commercial
buildings and I am in the orchid business. I have a
nursery with a retail store and I ship potted orchid
plants throughtout the United States. So if anyone out
there is looking for a different gift idea,e-mail me.
We also have a one bedroom vacation rental on our
property so if you are looking for a local style
accomodation again e-mail. Hoping to make the 30th
reunion in July.

Janice Ezell, Corky's wife, contacted me this week to
let me know the very sad news that Corky passed away on
Feb. 9. Janice asked that I put something on the Awalt
Directory.
In addition to Janice, Corky's wife, Corky has a 15

in the Bay Area, and she will be happy to give you his

Janice is a singer. After the reunion, a female Awalt

watching Janice perform. Janice would like to have
that classmate contact her.
Please contact me at Anntiga@aol.com for the Ezell's

- That nearly half a century has elasped since the
passing of those sun-drenched, halcyon times
we shared together is a rather sobering thought. My
last entry was both brief and sorely outdated. That I
am missing the 40th, but still desiring to attend the
next, I thought it good, like so many others, to leave
a brief synopsis of what has transpired.
I went into medicine, choosing anesthesia as my field.
I married my wife, Barbara, who I met while working in
the surgical ICU at Northwestern in Chicago. We raised
two remarkable children, Amy and Jonathan, ages 30 and
27, respectively. Amy is me in a girl-suit, and
Jonathan has a great deal of Barbara's gifts and
nature in him. Even their faces bear this out, to a
certain degree. Funny how physiognomy bears true....
We first lived in the midwest, then in the southwest,
and at last in upstate New York before coming full
circle back to Chicago, living once more in St.
Charles- a quiet bedroom community 50 miles directly
west of Chicago.
I became a Christian in 1973, and now my passions lie
in theology and apologetics, studying history and
philosophy as well, in order to answer the "why
questions", like why is it that we have come to think
the way we currently do. There are times when I wish I
had gone to seminary, but there are always
opportunties to share (or defend) one's faith where
ever you may find yourself. "There is a destiny (God)
which shapes our ends, rough-hew them how we may."
I have or had a number of other outside interests,
most of which have now fallen by the wayside. I rode
horses for years, culminating in an appreciation for
the subtle joys of dressage. I also developed my
skills in wooden ship building, and have a few large
scale clipperships to show for it. As far as music, I
did play the piano while in highschool, and intend to
return to it presently, having recently the privilege
of purchasing a grand Estonia piano. I never lost my
love of classical music, and, in addition, developed
an appreciation of the fine art of film scores.
Staying in touch with treasured old friends is of
paramount importance, and I spend a considerable
amount of time in correspondence every day. The
children have moved on, and Barb and I live quiet
lives of contemplation, in the company of three dogs
and an actively ringing telephone. I have no love of
current culture, (nor did I ever) but use my time to
read and study. I will close with a quote from the
film, Zorba the Greek, which rather handly sums things
up for me. Zorba asks his bookish protege, "Why do
people die?" He meekly replies, I don't know." Zorba
then angrily challenges him, "What's the use of all
your damn books? If they don't tell you that, what the
hell do they tell you?"
Comes the quiet response: "They tell me of the agony
of men who can't answer questions like yours."

I am living in sin, with a wonderful man, Hank, as in Hickory Hank, in

home go up. From ground to roof. Never did I expect the outcome,it
is a paradise. We have a hug pond, with fish and lots of wild life flying
in and out with a fountain in the center. Have fishing contests
frequently. We have a beautiful pool with a waterfall along with 2 1/2
acres. Great party house. Have had several with live bands along with
lots of dancing. The house itself is all natural wood, rock, slate, and
built with lots of love and friendship. If any of you are ever in town,
please stop and visit: 1337 I Street, Rio Linda, Ca., 95673. Cell:916-

In the past few years, I have climbed Shasta, by the way, child birth was
easier than that. Went ice caving, rafting frequently along with snow
skiing, water skiing, hiking, biking most anything I can still do and
enjoy. Thank goodness for motrin at times. HA HA
Office manager for 16 years for the same general dentist in Fair Oaks,

more to rent. We will see what happens.
George and Tina are still hanging in there. They are now both in the

- Wow! Can't believe it's been 10 years since our last
reunion. I am still a Registered Dental Assistant
working in the same Oral Surgery office in Mountain
View for 37 years now. In the 70's it was Dr. Bob
Lundquist and from the 80's until now it's Dr. Bob
Byers. We might have seen some of your family members
in that time.
Chuck and I celebrated our 25th anniversary last
October. We are "parents" to 2 more Australian
Shepherds, Bella and Buxton, who are now 7. Up until
just recently we took them for a week to Mendocino
every 6 months to run and play off leash. Lots of dog
friendly accomodations up there.
Every year we also attend the NHRA Drag Races in
Sonoma at Infineon Raceway (Searspoint). No
dogs....too hot.
This year my dad turned 95 and is in failing health.
He still lives in his house in Los Altos where I grew
up and attended Awalt. He has his up and down times. I
won't be able to attend the reunion this year in order
to take care of him. I do look forward to seeing
everyone in 10 another years.

- I've been in Nucla, Colorado for almost 30 years now-
about half way between Telluride and Moab. My wife
Renee (Paly '70) and I are getting ready to experience
the joys of the "empty nest" as our last daughter,
Heidi, leaves for Johnson and Wales University in
Denver this summer. Hanna, our oldest will graduate
from FIDM in Los Angeles with a degree in fashion and
shoe design. We'll see where that takes her as she
begins her career. Our middle daughter Heather, is a
sophmore at UC Boulder majoring in journalism.
I continue to ride bikes, both road and mountain and
volunteer as the trail manager for the 110 mile long
Paradox Trail.I own my own cabinet and woodworking
shop here in Nucla using the old Nucla Theater on Main
Street as my place of business.Nucla is surrounded by
some of the prettiest and remote public lands in the
lower '48. It's what brought me here from Mendocino
County where I lived outside of Ukiah for seven years
in the early '70s. I was another long haired cultural
drop-out.
I still occassionally get back to California to see my
Mom in Paradise and my brother in Sunnyvale.
Life is good for us in this remote corner of the world.

- The year 2000 brought me to the east coast and
eventually moving to Vermont. I too lost most of my
California ties as my parents and all relatives living
there have passed on.
We now live in the Northeastern Kingdom of Vermont. We
own 10 acres of farm land with our nearest neighbors
being the cows across the street. It
is absolutely beautiful here with four distinct
seasons in all their glory. My favorite pasttimes
are watching the autumn leaves, snowmobiling, and
skiing.
I graduated from the University of Southern
California. Then I taught for 26 years in
California. Since moving to Vermont, I have been
subbing in the local school.

- I am what you call a political psychologist. After
first becoming a clinical psychologist and practicing
for some years--involved in Eslaen, psychosynthesis--
I decided to work on a bigger neurosis. In the 80s I
moved into the Center for International Security and
Arms Control at Stanford and did a study based on
interviews I did with defense policymakers. Wrote a
book Minds at War: Nuclear Reality and Inner
Conflicts of Defense Policymakers. Then got
interested in the changes that were going in the
Soviet Union. Did another interview study in the
Soviet Union--wrote another book: Burying Lenin.
Moved to Washington DC in 1990, affiliated with the
University of Maryland. Got increasingly interested
in public opinion on international issues. Started
the Program on International Policy Attitudes--doing
lots of polls, first in the US and now increasingly
in other countries as well. Remember Clay Ramsay?
We have not only been in touch all these years but he
started the program with me and is the director of
research and has been for about 12 years now. You

- Jon and I eloped last week! Love is grand the second
time around, we met on a blind date set up by a
friendly colleague who has lived next door to Jon the
last 12 years. Now we're living in a 1930's cottage in
downtown Livermore, working with an architect to
remodel and add a second floor to retain the Craftsman
look. We love being able to walk to restaurants and
stores and the rodeo parade goes by every year, too!
In November I transitioned from teaching as a K-5
reading specialist to become a New Teacher Coach, using
the model from UCSanta Cruz' New Teacher Center. I
mentor 16 new K-12 teachers for 2 years each. It's very
invigorating job and I'm using all my experience in

- Wow - just found this site. How to wrap almost 40
years in 3600 bytes.
I've been a graphic designer since 1972 and worked
all over the world. Lived in Saudi Arabia from 78 to
84 where I worked for the King in setting up a
University graphics department. My husband was a
Marine Geologist for ARAMCO. My daughter was born
there and my son almost was. Got back to Saratoga in
time for him to be born in CA.
Moved to Napa from Saudi and started my own graphics
business. I was divorced from my husband and raised
my two kids by myself. I designed and built a
beautiful house on 2 acres in Napa hills. CACA occurs
and life happened and I moved to Calistoga. My kids
still live in Calistoga where Becca (28) my daughter
is a writer and entrepeneur. My son Ryan went to
Humbolt Coillege and now lives in Calistoga working
and traveling to South America and Europe.
I live in the High Desert of Southern California and
am looking forward to moving back North. I am now
doing freelance graphic design and very recently
divorced from no. 2.
I am looking forward to our 40th reunion (wow can't
believe that). Missed all the others but hope to see

- Hi! It's fun reading the career paths we've all taken
- quite a diversity. I have a BA and MBA from
UCBerkeley, then spent nine years as a Director of
Marketing for first a medical equipment company, then a
computer peripheral company.
I started Suzanne's Muffins in 1986 which grew to ten
Bay Area stores, a wholesale division and a national
mail-order division. It was getting to be way too
much so in 2001 I decided to sell off my retail stores
and close down the business.
My husband also sold his business (Orthopedic Systems
Inc in Union City) in 2001 and is now a private
investor who does consulting for start-up businesses.
We live in Los Altos Hills and Atherton (currently
remodeling LAH home while we live in Atherton) and
have three wonderful kids. Aaron (21) is a senior at
Harvard, Aimee (19) is a sophomore at Stanford, and
our son Jordan (17) is a junior at Crystal Springs
Uplands High School in Hillsborough.
I now spend the majority of my time volunteering for
various groups and causes -- as well as still
(happily) attending many sporting, musical, theatrical
and scouting events to watch our youngest son.

- I'm here in Mountain View. The kids are now grown and
out of school (son Chris (28, SJSU) and wife Kris, and
daughter Kimberly (25, SFSU) who is single). I'm
living on Grant Road near the house where I grew up --
talk about coming full circle! I'm also a member of
the Awalt Class of '69 Reunion Committee and having a
blast. It's great to meet with old classmates,
although we really never got old. It has something to
do with a time warp -- kind-a like in "Lost"!...... and
the island (Awalt) is calling us back.
Those of you on the cusp of "Should I go or not go to
the reunion?" really should go -- After all, it's been
40 years! Because of the recession even the extended
stay hotels with suites and kitchenettes have great
rates on the weekends. Those of you who have moved out
of the area can explore your old haunts, go Santa Cruz,
the City, Big Basin, Mt. Tamalpias, etc. from here. It
would be a great vacation! Think of it! You can also
connect with old friends, talk about your high school
adventures, teachers, fun during the flower-making
parties to build the Homecoming Floats, Senior class
cut day, or the CSA field trips.
I almost forgot that I'm supposed to write a blurb
about what I've been up to (I got off-track). I went
to UCLA, graduated, got married, lived in Germany,
Colorado and San Antonio, TX, then moved back to
Mountain View and have been single since 1997. I'm now
the office manager at a company that specializes in
personal and employee benefits (401(k) plans, life,
medical, dental, and vision insurance) in Mountain
View. I've been working there over 3 years. Please
send me an email. I'd love to hear from you!

- The summer of 69 was mostly spent in Mazatlan,
Mexico, surfing every day. I have surfed now for 43 years!
69-70: Foothill College.
70-71: Chico State. My brother Tom Long, Awalt Class of
67 died in a car accident on April 12, 71. Such a tragedy.
71-73: UCSB; 73 BA in Political Science, With Honors.
Loved UCSB and fell in love with Santa Barbara.
73-74: Pepperdine Law School in Anaheim, living in
Huntington Beach, and surfing when I could.
74-76: Univ. of San Diego Law School, and received
my JD degree in 76. I met the love of my life there,
Pat Robinson, Awalt Class of 1971.
(We did know each other at Awalt, but not
very well.) Loved SD and surfing there.
I moved back to Los Altos, and was the Deputy, then
Assistant City Attorney for the City of Mountain View
from 78 to mid 86. Pat and I got married in 78, and we
moved to La Selva Beach in 83. Oh how I love living 6
blocks from the ocean near Manresa State Beach, a great
place to surf!
Keriann was born in 81, and she received her BA in
Sociology from UCSB, with High Honors in 03. She now
happily lives in Santa Monica, and is about a year away
from obtaining a Masters in Family Therapy degree from
California Lutheran.
We bought a second home a mile or so inland from UCSB
in 00, and we are considering moving there in the
next couple of years. The SB area is incredibly
breathtaking and picturesque.
I would love to hear from anyone living in the SB area;
do you like living there?
Kevin was born in 84, and is about six months away from
getting an AA degree in PE, with an Emphasis in
Exercise Science, from Santa Barbara City
College. This will lead to a Health / Fitness
Instructor (HFI) license. He works at a local athletic
club, and he also loves to surf. We love his beagle
Marley, our grand-dog!
I opened a private law practice in 86 in Santa Cruz,
upon purchasing it from an attorney. My real estate /
land use experience from my Mtn. View Assistant City
Attorney days was very useful, and then I loved doing
work for dependent children in Juvenile Court as a
Court-appointed attorney. I had such satisfaction
knowing I was making a difference in someone's life!
Family law, estate planning, and business law were
other areas I enjoyed.
In 95, I started working as an attorney from home. I am
mostly semi-retired at the moment, but that may change.
I started covering the San Francisco 49ers home games
in 96 with another reporter for a local newspaper.
Photography instantly became my passion, and it is the
thrill of a lifetime to shoot the games from the
sidelines, and to interview the players and coaches
after the games, and also at the Santa Clara
headquarters. So, the 08 season will be my 13th
straight season as a photojournalist covering the
Niners. Several players, coaches, and Niner employees
have thanked me for sharing my photos with them.
Pat has worked at Aptos Shoes and Apparel since late
03, and is the Store Manager. You should stop on by and
check the store out; it's right off of State Park Drive
in Aptos.
Well, that's what I have been doing the past 39 years.
It continues to be a journey filled with love around me.
Aloha,
Burke

- Here is an update of what we I have been doing since my
last letter in 1999. We raised over $100,000 for a
perpetual scholarship fund at the local high school in
Michael's (our first born son) memory. So far we have
awarded 12 scholarships to seniors who have had to
overcome some pretty significant obstacles to graduate.
We have handed out about $50,000 in scholarships to
date. We found this a nice way to keep Michael's
memory alive through his high school.
On a brighter side, I have reduced my work schedule
such that I can take about 18 weeks off a year and
travel to some fun places. I have had extended stays
in Scotland (golfing), New Zealand (fly fishing), Costa
Rica (hiking), Alaska (fishing), Maui (snorkeling,
hiking, and golf), Idaho (skiing, biking, and fishing),
and most all of the Western United States. Next year my
big trip will be to Kamchatka, Russia for remote area
fly fishing.
Our engineering company has continued to grow despite
the poor economy and we now have about 400 employees.
Carrie if working part-time at a local school.
Kimberly graduates from high school in June and is
active in countless school activities. She spent her
spring break in Japan. She intends to stay close to
home for college. David is a sophomore and is active
on the volleyball and golf teams. He is also becoming
an excellent fly fisherman so I can have company on
some of my remote trips. Last week he landed a 10.5
pound, 30-inch rainbow while float tubing a lake in
Northern California.
Other than being in the middle of a major home remodel
and planning our summer vacation schedules we are
slowly transitioning to a semiretired basis.

Greg passed away June 8, 2008. He hadn't responded to
his door or phone so his neighbor called the police.
After breaking the door down they found him, he had
passed on. Tests were inconclusive; the general
consensus is his heart gave out.
This is heart breaking news to his family and friends
and his co-workers and students at Foothill College,
where he was an extremely well regarded and popular
Professor.
He will be missed by all.
-----------------------------------
After graduation I was drafted and spent a year in
Viet
Nam. Took advantage of an early exit for school and
returned to Foothill. Then spent 3 or 4 years at Cal
State Chico getting a degree in Political Science,
debating, playing, fishing for Steelhead, and putting
myself through college as a carpenter.
When I returned to the bay area I fell into owning my
own company which installed custom skylights in
residential homes. I then got married, divorced (no
kids), and spent 8 years trying to extricate myself
from
construction (Argh!).
Switched gears in the mid 80's by moving into computer
programming. My specialty is multimedia programming,
and
creating custom software applications for companies.
In
the late 80's I was hired as a part time instructor at
Foothill College in their computer department teaching
multimedia programming, computer applications, and as
a
lab coordinator maintaining hardware and software in
their labs. In September 98 I was hired as a full-time
instructor at Foothill teaching multimedia, internet,
web stuff, etc.
Living in Los Gatos, with no free time, occasionally
playing golf with Potts, Amato (when he is free...
scream laugh), Farlow, Durham... all of whom I
constantly have to pay off :)

- Even though I moved following my soph year I have
always kept very fond memories of our class of '69.
I have enjoyed being an R.N. for the last 29 years
working in various areas ie. newborn ICU, Open Heart
ICU, ICU/CCU, Outpatient surgery, and currently in
Recovery Room in San Luis Obispo County, CA.
My eldest of 2 daughters will be graduating next year
from George Washington Univ. majoring in International
Relations (She has no clue what she'll do) My other
daughter will enter her 2nd year at San Diego State
Univ. majoring in accounting. (She didn't get her Math
skills from me)
It's been fun seeing where our class members are now &
what everyone has been up to. Hope to hear about more
of them.
Hope to see you in July.

Will be married in one week after 12 years of dating
Kimo. You never can know a person TOO well, right...
I enjoyed seeing & hearing the stories at the All-

What fun to be included in the reunion. Thanks to

My husband Shelby and I sold our Sacramento manufactured housing dealerships and retired to
Colorado in 1993. We bought an 8 acre private
island on the Colorado River and had hoped to open
an RV park. Business was in our blood and in 1996
we got in the manufactured housing business again.
I'm now a grammy and love my new role! Spoil them
and send them home!
I've really enjoyed reading all of your listings, and can't believe how many of our paths have crossed and we didn't even know it!!
I look forward to seeing you all July 30th and 31st.

- Lisa just won re-election to her third term in the Maine legislature.
Which means she just finished four months of going door to door most
days and talking to people. We both continue happy and healthy. I go to
the gym now and I'm in pretty good shape for an old man. All the kids
are grown and out of the house and I don't like it .. so I call the youngest
about three times a week to chat. Still working at the health center
seeing folks and occasionally delivering a baby. Excited by the election
results and hopeful for our country's future for the first time in a while.

- What's New?
- First marriage was right out of school, in 1970, to a
military guy. Lived in Germany for a total of 7 years,
had 2 daughters, also lived in El Paso for a year.
Then, moved to Central Utah. That one didn't work out.
Tried it again in 1983. Over the next 9 years had 2
sons and two more daughters. That one didn't work out
either.
Finally got it right in 1998!!! Married a fantastic
man who loved me, loved my kids. He morally adopted
the four older ones and legally adopted the 2 youngest
girls. We are living in a little (300 people) town in
Eastern Utah called Emery. Actually we live outside
the town limits. We have a mini-farm with several
arabian horses, a few mini-horses, one mini-donkey,
two pygmy goats, five geese, 8 dogs (7 poodles and one
chihuahua) and unnumbered cats (to keep the rodent
population down).
My oldest daughter is almost 31 yrs. old and has two
adorable sons. I'm not a predjudiced "Nana". They
really are adorable. Both redheads. My next daughter is
28 yrs. old, married, but no children yet. Oldest son
is 22 yrs old, out and on his own, no lady in his
life. Next son is 20 also out and on his own, no lady
in his life either. Both are just trying to pay the
rent and the bills. Next daughter is 17, junior in
high school and going to girls' state this summer. And
the youngest daughter is 12, 6th grade and smart as a
whip.
My husband, David, has 4 grown children and they range
in age from 46-29. And believe it or not, we all get
along, most of the time. He also has 5 grandsons and a
granddaughter who have adopted me as an extra grandma.
So my life is pretty full, just trying to keep up with
everyone and all the animals. I do work on writing
children's stories and a few poems in what spare time
I have. I also do lots of crocheting and knitting, to
make things to keep everyone warm.
Hope some of you remember me with something like
affection. There's lots of you that I remember. If any
knows anything about Jackie Todd, we used to be
inseparable, I'd sure like to get in touch with her.
Things have changed a little bit, since I wrote this,
new additions and such-like. We've added a son-in-law
(David's daughter remarried) and a grandson. The
grandson was born 2 months premature and weighed in at
3 lbs. but is now over 10 pounds and doing great.
We're also planning a wedding for August and expecting
a new grandbaby soon after that.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at the 40th. I'd
like to hear from any of you who remember me.

July.
I'm still flying for United and I'm still married to
Craig Weller and we are still living in Alexandria,
part of the time.
Craig and I bought a beautiful beach house down in
North Carolina last year so we spend most of our free
time down there fishing and swimming at Carolina
Beach.
My daughter Kendra, is now a lawyer living in San
Francisco and my son Niko is a music promoter also in
San Francisco. I miss them both and try to get out
to see them every couple of months.
I've been thinking about retirement quite a bit these
last three years but can't quite bring myself to stay
in one state yet. So, I've toned down the
international flying quite a bit and moved over to
the easier domestic flying for now.
I'll tell you more when I see you next July, Linda

- It's very hard to believe 1969 is as long ago
as...well, it is. Anyway, it's great to read how
everyone is doing. I attended Awalt for only my
junior, and half of my senior year, graduated in Jan,
69. (I was a refugee from Holy Cross.) My favorite
teachers were Sue Jacobs and Jerry Bacon. After I
graduated, I moved to SF, stayed for 7 years, lived
in Mexico for a year, came back and joined the
service at the end of Viet Nam.
Single mom the last 20 years, raised my daughter Erin
who is a civil engineering student in Sacramento and
my son Andrew who is a youth pastor here in Yuba
County.
I'm a nursing instructor at Yuba College and an ICU
nurse. I've been a member of AA for 20 awesome
years. It's unbelievable how many very talented
people came from our area, and our class. Or, are
those just the only ones who post here? Hmmm...
My brother Riley also attended Awalt and was a
classmate of Rick and John Hanson, Jeannie Nakano,
and the Myers brothers. He passed away from cancer
October 2007. I have not yet been to any of the

have been married to Cathy for 12 years now and we

is the "Honor Student" I never was and I found out
I'm the oldest dad in her class. Our dog Jenny (won
2nd place in Ft. Bragg smartest dog contest) is now 4
years old and we still have 2 cats. Time sure flies
when you're having fun! We have now been doing our
own business for over 20 years with my wife's help
since married (industrial and retail engraving).
Cathy now has her own retail store in Campbell (also
doing engraving). Hobbies are still cars and related
stuff, and camping. Always need more time for
hobbies!! We have lived in Campbell for the last 12
years and are no longer "trying" to retire and move
to Ft. Bragg, CA (but maybe someday we will end up
there). Still have a house there but it has turned
into a rental.
Most interesting jobs since graduation:
Working on underground atomic bomb tests at the Nevada
Test Site, and doing above ground simulations of same.
Best job since graduation: is having my own business.
(Why didn't they tell us at Awalt that working for
yourself was a very good option?) Overall, it's been

sounded so 'old' years ago - but I'm feeling young and
am busier than ever! I live in Los Altos half the
year, and Mexico the other half (winter of course).
In Mexico I live in Lo de Marcos, a small town about
one hour from Puerto Vallarta. I am just completing
the project of building my house there that has a
beautiful view of the ocean. I actually found
building a house in a foreign country easy, really. I
teach english to the local children, and am getting
involved in medical services. I look forward to
planning a spay and neuter clinic this coming year so
I can help my real love, the animals. My dog Nina,
(from mexico) is in heaven there - she gets to run
with all her 'street' friends. Life couldn't be
better. I love Mexico - the weather is ideal, and the
people so warm and welcoming. I feel fortunate to
have found Lo de Marcos and be part of the community
there.
Oops, I forgot to have children. Guess that's a

sophomore at UCSB majoring in Global Studies and will
study abroad in Italy next year. They both certainly
picked nice places for us to visit! I worked for many
years as a technician for Pac Bell and was happy to
accept early retirement several years ago. Now that

- Hi all,
I graduated from UCSB in 1973 with a BA in English and
married right away--married for 22 years and have an
amazing Son and Daughter. Currently single with a
wonderful man in my life and a very busy residential
real estate career in Los Altos, Los Altos Hills and
Mountain View and our surrounding communities.
Mom still lives in the same house where I grew up on
Columbia Drive. She's 88 and works almost daily in
her gardens.
Mark, 28, graduated from San Diego State
University with a degree in Business-Finance, is
Partner with Custom Dreams in Real Estate in
Los Altos. I'm delighted he lives closeby in Old
Downtown Mtn. View.
Brooke, 26, graduated from San Diego State University
with a degree in Business-Real Estate and began her
real estate career in San Diego. She just moved back
to Los Altos to be closer to family [never thought I'd
hear those words--I must be getting old] and continue
her career in the Bay Area.
I live in the Village of Los Altos. As an empty
nester, I'm truly enjoying the downtown lifestyle and
am blessed to have both my my "children" nearby!
I've been helping people buy and sell real estate for
over 10 years.
I'd be delighted to help you or your family with your
real estate needs or please call/e-mail me just to
say "hi".
Looking forward to catching up before or at the

- After high school, I worked at Wells Fargo Bank for
awhile. I met and married my husband, Bob (1968 grad of
Sequoia HS in Redwood City) in 1975. After a 20-year
career with the US Coast Guard, Bob retired in 1988 and
we moved to beautiful southern Oregon where we built
our home on 20 acres of forest land. We have two kids,
our daughter Hannah, 19, a boatswains mate in the Coast
Guard and our son Casey, 14, an avid skateboarder. Bob
now works in nearby Grants Pass at an irrigation supply
company and I've got my own little business making
antique-style teddy bears for collectors, which I began
in 1985. I took my business to the Internet this year;
the address is above. Stop in, look around and leave me
a message in my guestbook. I also volunteer some time
every week at a local wildlife rehabilitation center,
Wildlife Images. Our goal is to take injured or
orphaned North American wild animals and birds, get
them on their feet and back in the wild as soon as
possible. It's wonderful working with the animals but
gets a little crazy every year about June at the height

are my old class mates.
I continued my education at Foothill and then San Jose
State, majoring in aeronautics. After graduation I
went to work at United Airlines in aircraft
maintenance but my dream had always been to fly
airplanes not fix them. During my stay at United I
continued flying lessons and in 1978 I quit my job. I
bought a one way ticket to Alaska, in search of
flying.
In Alaska I found work as a pilot for a commuter
airline. Two years later I was hired by Northwest
Airlines. I met my wife Barbara at Northwest. She is
also a pilot. I am currently a Captain on the 747

- Latest and greatest news is that after 32 years
Carolyn and I parted ways. We have 3 great kids who
all graduated from college(sometimes wonder where
they got their brains-but all have jobs and their
futures look good.) I have worked the last 25 years
(too many years as far as I'm concerned)in sales. I
seem to be able to sell easily although I sometimes
wonder if its because I'm full of sh..! I should keep
this clean. I wouldn't want anyone to think I have
changed... few more pounds, head full of gray-although
I prefer "salt and pepper" look, a little extra
muscle around the waist-its something that keeps
getting bigger, so I call it muscle, and occasionally
I even have some serenity in my life. I never thought
I'd make it to 50, so I"m now on cruise control for
the rest of the ride.

bring the KANSARK Spartans chapter members (Snead,
Martini, Swanson) back to CA for golf and hoops, and
materialize Ananya (Bither) to make a foursome and two
on two. I get back to the Bay from home here in
Manhattan, Kansas at least four times a year to visit
Mom in Cupertino, in-laws in Paly and San Jose, sister
Pat (64) in Novato, and get a good dose of ocean.
Leslie (Cubberly 69) and I have been together for 33
years and our son Braden is a bicycle components design
engineer just married to Diane and living in CO
Springs. Leaving Cal Poly SLO in 74 we moved to Ithaca
NY and Cornell for grad school and then got employment
at Kansas State U. in 76, so moved to Manhattan (the
Little Apple). Day job for the last 25 years has been a
state extension specialist in residential energy, radon
and indoor air quality doing public education and
industry training in the Midwest thru funded contracts.
Moonlight job is as a city commissioner for the last 13
years, serving as mayor three times, and scheduled to
do that again in 2010. Lots of stories to tell there.
Bionic left hipness at 50 ended my hoop playing days

another July 4th party. Hopefully you will have one
next year and I'll be there. Say hi to Red. Jim,
Julie, Ann. WOW!! It was nice reading about your
lives. Please email me. About me... been married a few
times, but I know I finally got it right. I travelled
alot after Awalt trying to figure out what I needed.
When that didn't get "it" I went back to school. I
graduated from Pacific Lutheran University with a
Bachelor's in Accounting and Business Administration.
I've had many different kinds of jobs over the years
and now am the accounting manager for a home builder.
I live in the Puget Sound area and have been here for
25 years after much searhing of a place to call home.
It is beautiful, yet I miss the warmth of California
sometimes. I have a daughter who is 26 and 2
stepdaugters 41 & 36. My daughter, Josie, graduated
from Western Washington with a Bachelor's in
Humanities. She had scholarships for math and
science, but that "wasn't her thing". Oh my, she may
end up like her mother. She is now opening new
restaurants for Red Robin all over the country and
doing volunteer work for the county she lives in.
Anyhow, I sure enjoyed learning about everyone. Say,
hey to the warmth of California! Oh, I've been going
by my middle name "Emma" for about the last 30 years.

- WOW, I just found out about this--wish I had known
sooner.
37 years in a couple paragraphs---went to UCLA on the
7 year plan--got out in 76--Financial MGR of Ford
Dealership in Santa Monica, but Ol' Swanee, (Dad),
talked me into becoming an investment banker--joined
Wall Street crowd in 78. Got fired a few times for
being a drunk, (anybody who saw me the few times I
drank before going off to college is probably not
surprised!). Got Sober in 1983, and had successful
banking career. Top salesman in the country at
Lehman Brothers for a few years. Retired Jan 99, and
moved from Bay ARea to Portland, OR. Went back to
get MBA, and taught at Portland State University for
a couple years. Biggest clients were always in
Alaska, and I have been there over 50 times on
fishing/business/golf trips--met my wife there in
August of 2001--had a teaching job at University in
Marseilles France, and flew her over to Paris to
propose--always was a bit of a romantic!!
She said "Oui, Oui--but you know I have 20 acres in
Ozark Mtns. of Arkansas, and that is where I am going
to retire!" Got out map and looked for Arkansas! It
is just beautiful back here!
Back to life story--two boys--Casey and Kris--One
grandson, Sean. Casey lives in Bay Area, Kris has
moved to Ozarks to go to college--I might teach one
of his classes next spring! Adopted a beautiful boy
Robert--had HIV from birth--got him when he was 6,
and lost him to AIDS in 2004. He is buried out by
the lake on our 20 acres.
I am having a blast playing "farmer Scott"--Lake with
bass and catfish on our property--horses, pastures,
trees, chickens, and next spring I am getting a
small "herd" of cows---One of the locals told me
anything over 5 is a herd, so I am buying 6!
Have visited with Steve Martini and Bruce Snead, up
the road in Kansas, and Tini brought his family to
visit this summer. I love all of you who are still
in Cali, but you must be nuts!! The prices, the
people, the pace!!! I have a neighbor named Red--he
and I visit for an hour a day--we talk about life,
the weather, kids, etc.--not a sound to bother us,
except the cows mooing, and the birds chirping!! We
have a nice little guest cabin on the lake, and are
opening it to vacationers next month--anyone ever get
lost and fine yourself in NW Arkansas, look for
Harrison, and give us a call!! Scott and Susan House,
(I have changed MY name--she did not want to change
hers!) 870-743-1737. Longer than a paragraph--Hope
to hear from some of you when you can!
Aloha, (bought a place in Hawaii about 10 years ago--
go over every winter for a month to play golf--
another very peaceful place!)
Scott
PS--must add this about Tom Bither--he now goes by
Ananya, and lives in a tent on the beach on Kauai--At
least he did when I last saw him about 3 years ago--
what a long strange trip it has been!

November 27, 2001:
Well I finally did it!!! I shed my weight like I shed
my debt (see note from June 1998). Have lost 85
pounds so far this year. I have received so many
blessings this past year. WOW: 85 pounds lighter,
feeling & looking 20 years younger; playing
basketball, laughing and having fun, caring for my
inner child… my goodness!
Can't wait to see you at the Picnic in July 2002!
August 3, 1999:
Okay, Okay, I will update my message! Just want to
let you know that the original message is over 1 YEAR
OLD!!! Yes, I was one of the first of the 69’s to
find the Awalt web site and sign in on June 18, 1998.
I HAD A GREAT TIME AT THE REUNION!!! What FUN.
It was good visiting with most of you, great seeing all
of you, can't believe that is has been 30 years.
After High School graduation I attended Foothill Jr.
College, then transferred to San Jose State University
to complete my education and receive a BS degree in
Physical Education in June 1974.
Somehow ended up in Sacramento in 1986. I worked for
Diamond Lumber, then Diagnostic Labs. Moved on to OUCH
(Occupational Urgent Care Health). During the 7 years
with this company, I acquired my technical writing
skills. I was recruited for the Technical Writer
position with International Billing Services, which
became DST Output.
On a personal note, I have not yet married nor do I
have any children. I have two cats - Sophie and
Tucker - which have been with me since 1985. I own my
Condo and bought a brand new car in Dec 1999. Other
than that my original message is still true I am debt
free.
June 18, 1998:
A great year for me, new job, much better pay and
finally - debt free!! There's 'more' of me to enjoy,
hope to shed that like I did my debt!!!

- Update!New Entry! Either I tell the story now or wait 5
more days for the reunion. Oh well...here goes. After
graduation from Awalt and 1 1/2 long years at Foothill
I journeyed for an 8 year hitch with the Air Force as
an aircraft mechanic. I was fortunate to travel and get
worldwide assignments such as Thailand, Philippines,
Germany, Italy, Spain and of course some time in the
good old USA. I met and married my wife, Bernadette, in
Germany in 1976. I guess German Club and the awesome
Octoberfests at Awalt made their point!! Upon returning
to civilian life in 1979 in Calif. I turned my interest
and profession to residential/commercial heating,
air conditioning and refrigeration...and thats where
I'm at still. Bernadette has changed careers from the
medical field to graphic design and is currently
working at West Valley College in Saratoga. Ah yes..the
kids. We also have 2 wonderful kids...both of which we
adopted at birth. Michelle is 13 and starts high school
this fall and Greg is 11 and starts 6th grade. I can't
believe some of you old 69ers have kids already
graduating from college!!!..and some of you are
grandmas and grandpas too! We're looking forward to
seeing as many as possible this Saturday night. The web
page is a great way to keep a line on everybody.

- I guess it's time to update since I've now graduated from just a mom to
a grandma. Somehow I thought we would all rebel against aging, but it
seems we have instead embraced our wrinkles and even gained a little
wisdom along the way. Congratulations to the class of 69, I hope our
children enjoy and accept life's little challenges as much as we have.
I'm still married and living among the trees on a couple of acres just
north of Santa Rosa. (Thank goodness we bought this place back in
'78, we sure couldn't afford it now.) Our oldest son (25) is now
married and has also bought a home in Santa Rosa, so I think this is
where we'll stay when we retire. Our daughter (20) was blessed with a
beautiful baby girl last year and although she now lives in Kansas, I still
get see them fairly frequently. My youngest son (16) is enjoying high
school and trying really hard to be the kid that causes his parents the
least amount of grief. (He calls himself "the good kid".) I'm still
working as a Resource Specialist Teacher for 3 days per week, and I
love my work, so I think I'll try and hang in there for a while longer.
It's really fun reading the updates every few years and trying to connect
the names with a memory, so for those of you that haven't signed on
lately, give it a try.

- What's New?
- Hi! I left Awalt after my freshman year, so most of
you probably don't remember me. I moved to SoCal -
Orange County more specifically and stayed there until
I graduated college and got married. Married a Naval
officer so we moved around for the first five years
and then he retired and we've been in Southern Calif.
ever since. We've been married 33 years and have two
great daughters ages 30 and 27. They're both college
grads and have great jobs and live on their own! The
youngest will be married next May. I've been working
for 20 years at a small non-profit family counseling
agency in fundraising. What was I thinking! My
husband has been with TRW (now Northrup Grummon) since
leaving the Navy. Love living in the hills of the
O.C. and looking forward to retirement in a couple
years. I would love to hear from anyone!

- As you may recall, I had to leave Awalt after my Junior
year - moved to Whittier (Nixon territory) and finished
high school there. Then on to UC Irvine, where I took
the multi-year plan, finally finishing with a degree in
Math. I immediately started with Pacific Bell (nee
Pacific Telephone) in IT and after 20 + years of
programming, Requirements, Regulatory and Business
Systems Analysis, took an early retirement (before 50).
Found the time to marry (Nancy Lubamersky) raise 2
offspring - Katie who took the 3 year plan at Cal
before graduating last spring (08), and is now headed
to NYU for a second bachelors, and Brian - off to U of
Oregon. Spent many years with both of them in Irish
dance, and crew (Brian). I've been living in Larkspur
(Marin county) for the last 23 years - had to stick in
one place after moving as a kid. Now at Kaiser, as a
Solution Consultant. We travel a lot (especially
Ireland for the Irish Dance World Championships). I
look forward to seeing all of you - most for the first
time since 1968.

- Hello dear old classmates, I've been happily living
in the Pacific Northwest for the past 34 years.
I've been a mother to four beautiful daughters, an
organic market gardener, a massage therapist and an
esthetician.
In nature I find peace, with my two granddaughters I
find love, and after 56 years of life on this planet
I have found wisdom.
Cynde Lynn and I remain the best of friends, and
Sandi, Sheila Minnon, Lynn Murphy, Cynde and I
continue to see each other each year.
Life is such an incredible adventure and I wake each
morning excited to see what new thing the day will
hold.
Hope to see you again, Dale

- Well, here we are 40 years later..I really cannot
believe it.After Awalt I attended Foothill, received a
degree from UC Davis, a teaching credential from CSU
Sacramento and later a Master's from there. I taught
elementary school in Woodland, became a principal
there then moved to the foothills in El Dorado County
in 1986. Also got married in that year--4 step kids so
bacame an instant family! Together we had 2 more boys.
Of the 6 kids--the oldest flies helicopters in
Sacramento, the next one is a pilot for Continental,
based in Houston and gave me 2 grandkids; number 3
works in Woodland and gave me 2 more grandkids;#4
lives in Denver and is still looking for Mr. Right.
Kris, my oldest son is a junior at UC Santa Cruz and
wants to be a commercial pilot; Jesse, my youngest, is
a junior in high school. Kris was just 4 weeks old at
our 20 year reunion---damn, I feel old.
Divorced a couple of years ago, so single now
after 24 years of relationship.
Professionally, I have been a school district
superintendent in El Dorado County for 12 years and ,
for the past 4 years have been the supt. for 2
districts(budget reduction solutions--there are a few
of us in the state who do this multiple district
thing). I have a total of 6 schools, all of which are
now Calif. Distinguished Schools. Where I work is like
Napa Valley in the 60's--great family owned small
wineries in a beautiful area...check out Somerset,
FairPlay and Shennendoah Valley. If you are up there
stop in at the Pioneer or Gold Oak School District
offices. I have done my civic duty and tasted most of
the local product and can point you in the right
direction.
What a trip it has been since Loyola, then Bloch
then to Awalt. I do appreciate each day, but the
person I see in the mirror is not the same person that
I feel like inside, I feel so much younger!--what is
up with that? I am looking forward to the 40th...it
will be a good time to slow down a bit and reflect on
what life has given us.
Saw Professor Larry Conyers on the History
Channel when the last Indiana Jones movie came out---
he was giving info on archeology...now that was
weird...watching TV then realizing,"Hey, I know that
guy" ...Thank you to all who have worked so hard to
make this reunion a reality!!
